Darul Hikmah is a progressive juristic, judicial, cultural and educational institution. It serves the Muslim community in America by performing Islamic marriages, confirming Islamic divorces, conducting family counseling, advocating domestic violence prevention and introducing conflict resolution concerning civil and occupational disputes.
Darul Hikmah provides the Muslim community in America with the same privileges provided by the civil and shari’ah courts in Muslim countries, including attainment of Shariah accommodating judgments based on arbitration or mediation that springs from Islamic Shari’ah rules. Darul Hikmah arbitration is recognized by the American legal system and is honored by courts in the United States and worldwide.
Darul Hikmah, through its associated legally qualified lawyers, will exercise direct contact with respective formal and judicial institutions, interview parties involved, examine and cross examine witnesses, and represent clients before all religious and civil tribunals in the US and in the Muslim world.
Dr. Mohamad Adam El-Sheikh is an American Nationalized Citizen with extensive experience and educational background in both the Eastern and Western worlds. Dr. El-Sheikh graduated with honors from the faculty of Shari’ah and Law, Omdurman Islamic University, Sudan, in 1969. He was appointed by the Department of Justice to serve as a judge for the Shari’ah Courts in Sudan. In 1978, he was approved for scholarship and dispatched to the United States for higher education. He obtained a Masters Degree in Comparative Jurisprudence ( MCJ ) from Howard University in Washington DC in 1980, his LLM (Master of Laws) from National Law Center at George Washington University in Washington DC in 1982, and his Ph.D. in Comparative Jurisprudence from Temple University, Philadelphia Pa. in 1986.
Dr. El-Sheikh served as resident Imam for eighteen years at Masjid Al Rahmah of the Islamic Society of Baltimore, Md. and two years as resident Imam of Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center, Falls Church Va. He also served about 27 years as member and executive Director of the Fiqh Council of North America (2003- 2008) and the head of the Islamic Judiciary council of the Shari’ah Scholars Association of North America (SSANA).
Dr. El-Sheikh travels from coast to coast to mediate, adjudicate and arbitrate cases relating to community discords, family disputes, and occupational arguments either by invitation from the concerned parties, Muslim community or by the US Courts.
$200.00 per hour in Darul Hikmah Office
• Adjudication on Inheritance & Legacy Distribution;
• Wills ( Regular & family living Trusts );
• Settlement of disputes between Employees & Employers;
• Settlement of disputes between Tenants and Landlords;
• The rest of areas are subject to agreement & contract.
$150 per session that does not exceed One Hour:
• Performance of Islamic Marriage;
• Conformation of Islamic Divorce;
• Processing an Islamic Khulau’ Divorce;
• Negotiation of Spousal Support;
• Negotiating Child Custody, Support, & Visitation;
• Negotiating Deferred Mahr & Property Division;
• Counseling (on phone or in person);
• Occupational settlement between employers and employees;
• Leadership Training in Arbitration and Mediation.
